New York Fashion Weeks kicks off.

As New York Fashion week kicked off this week we look at what is coming for next season. It seems that we did not leave summer yet and with winter just around the corner it almost felt good to be thinking about Spring 2012. I was very surprised at the new trends, a lot of almost AZTEC feel going on and the colors bright and vibrant, Oranges, lemons and lime greens. BCBG went for a very flowing, feminine look, but what else would we expect?

Richard Chai went for a very different look, floral and stripes, lots of coral, lilac and brown with gold stripes. A much more casual look with the pant suit being a real focus and shorts under long shirts and skirts. The make up on the models was really fun with purple and other vibrant colored lipsticks.

Supima was an absolute delight with so many students from around the USA being able to showcase their collections. Eight designers from fashion design schools including Pratt InstituteRhode Island School of Design, Savannah College of Art and Design andFashion Institute of Technology presented mini collections of 5 looks each. To the delight of many of the presenters, celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe was seated front row and acted as master of ceremonies for the competitions live runway finale. Everyone gasped time and time again at the creativity of these young up and coming stars and I have to post these different looks so that you can understand just what I am talking about… They left me breathless and I really felt that we will see so much more from all of the young stars of the future..

As always Tadashi Shoji did not disappoint with his Spring 2012 collection and I loved the flowing fabrics with the mixture of the colors again, coral, purple, lemons being the prominent features.

One of the things I think we should mention is hair and next Spring the look is all very ‘Robin Hood’ and ‘Maid Marion’ with the small braid being tied to the back of the head and long flowing curls. The other look was the scraped back from the face and very clean cut tied pony tail. I was amazed not to see any ‘boyish’ looks on the girl models, all very girlie and that made me very happy to see we are again going to be having the softer look.

Stay tuned as Fashion week has only just begun and there will be more looks and designers to be featured this week. I am looking forward to seeing the Farah Angsana show where one of our members RJ Graziano jewels are being featured.
